My dear wife plans all our vacations. And I just go, no questions asked. And they're wonderful.

And she's very adventurous. Like the time we did half the Vermont Long Trail (half of 273 miles) in one shot. She did all the planning including the equipment and food. We ran out of food on day 6. Never been so hungry in my life. Looking back, I think it's good in your life to be hungry so that every single thought for 3 days is food. I'll never forget it. Nor my first meal when we got out. But that's another story.

Anyway, this year, she decided that we would to the Seattle area. I worked out there on assignment at Boeing for 9 months eight years ago, and my family came out for the summer. She always wanted to go back. So we are. I find emails with reservations to stay on a boat in Lake Union, a tree house down by Rainier, and a yurt up in the islands. And to see some friends in Salem OR. I finally asked her the travel dates.

We return on August 7th.

I seem to remember that the SOC is somewhere out west this year.

So I checked the website and... it STARTS on Aug 7th!!!!!! Oh no! Plane reservations have been made! And we fly home the 7th!! Rats!

So my dear wife called the airline. $200 to change the dates. Each. Plus the cost of the SOC. Plus the hotel. Is this in the budget??? Not really....

But... how can I go all the way out there and NOT go to the SOC? And not meet some of the VSaaber's that I only know through the innernets and would probably never see back east???

What to do? What to do????

And Eric........ I may be driving alone on the Tour (taking the 2011 9-5) unless I get to Chauffer for Erik Carlsson and/or Peter Bakstrom. So how many family members are you bringing?

Why? Because just this week I bought plane tickets for Erik Carlsson and
Peter Backstrom this week to come to the SOC14, and Erik ain't getting any
younger.

We have a Saab Loaner Fleet coming together as well, so we can hook you up
with a car to drive there and back, Seattle or Portland (and we're right
next to Bellingham.) When you're ready, let us know.

See you there :-)

Okay... I'm getting close. A loaner car might seal the deal.

I already have 3 96's and 2 Sonett's. Buying another 96 won't make that much difference, would it? And, my wife would drive cross country in a 96 is a second!

Besides -- You can make the cost of all the trip changes -- including getting/driving the 96 back -- as a "bucket list" item -- it's all good! :-)

Eric, great story and you must change your plans and attend the SOC. Jack Ashcraft will be doing a seminar along with other interesting speakers and topics.
Tom, sorry to inform you that Erik and Peter will not be arriving until Thursday morning and will not be able to do the tour. My wife has been appointed to pick them at the airport and drive them to the SOC.

Well that's a bummer! Guess I'll need to start looking for another traveling companion for the Tour. Will revisit my wife's plans first, in case she has changed her mind.
