After plumbing in a heater core as an additional heat sink for my ailing
cooling system ( until I could replace the radiator) I realized it was
the lower coolant hose that was soft and collapsing under sustained high
revs. Put all back together and the alternator light's on. Not charging.
What did I do removing the radiator ? Possibly disconnected a wire or
such ? After checking all connections, replacing the voltage regulator,
the jumper between it and the alternator, and the alternator itself, to
no avail, I eventually found the fuse for the turn signals and the horns
was blown. So I had shorted the horn wire, I guess. Replaced the fuse
and the alternator light is out. Please explain... I don't get it.

Never mind... the two red wires on that fuse, 67 and 32, go to the horns
and the charging light . Without power, the light indicates "not
charging". All's good.

Weird... if you take the fuse out, the light comes on again?

Yes. If wire 32 to the indicator light is disconnected, the light will
glow. It is tapped through the fuse to 'key-on" power and, I guess, can
compare that to something in the alternator circuit. I think it is sort
of like the little "headlights-on-reminder" device that buzzes if the
key's off when the light switch is on. I don't know.....come to think of
it, I need to put one of those things on the '63. Very handy.

Just have the lights turn off with the ignition switch like a modern Saab,
you know, a '69.

Going to Oneonta?

Gremlins had spliced into the fuse circuit to run the inverter powering their xbox game. Inveterate Grand Theft Auto addicts, they were kept busy playing where they hide out in the trough behind the bumper with all your missing tools and hardware. When you inadvertently cut their power, they went on the warpath. Just a theory.
