Great news today...I bought a red GT750 awhile ago and due to its remote location in Minnesota, it is finally on its way today to my garage.  It has the original radio and halda speed pilot and wooden steering wheel.  It has been off the road since 1967 so sports original paint but floorboards were rusted.  The panels and back seat are nice and all the gauges are intact.   but a little neglect has left it needing restoration but it is complete including the beauty trim rings.  The engine is already rebuilt with the correct GT 750 head.  It was a field find more than a barn find.  It is serial numbered as a 1960 96 GT750.

Yes, it would make great story that took 4 yrs to lead to this day with scouting, aerial photos, lost emails, junk yard going to crush car, to calling car club owner to help rescue car.

So is actually a 96 or is it a 93? I had a 1960 93F that had a 96 GT 750 title.

Hey Bill,

Good question and I'd be interested what people recommend. In the past, I've heard of using a Saab 900 radiator with electric fan. I think that's a common option. I've also looked at the Summit Racing catalog and it seems that a couple of their standard products would fit. I've toyed what that myself, but haven't really gotten serious.

A Saab 9000 fits perfectly on my '67. The only wrinkle is the outlet is straight out the passenger side, easily connected with some ingenuity.

I know this isn't what you asked, but do you have a decent radiator shop
nearby? Have you checked with them to see what they would charge to re-core
your current one? If the tanks are in decent shape, that is always a good
bet. Modern cores don't look much different but when you add an entire row
and use modern tube shapes, things improve greatly.

Yes I have considered a re-core. The 63's almost over-cools but I think
Bruce's guy's gone out of it... I am sure Bert Gunn has one, but the
95's running warm with water wetter and 15% glycol. The 95's also my
main ride so I thought if I could throw in something a bit newer I'd be
good.

I know (some) new radiators aren't very expensive, but I haven't priced one
so I don't know how it might compare to the price of a re-core. I thought
it might be similar.

Hi,

This is covering 96 but could anyone could share opinion how to get a 99
with Triumph 1,7 engine run at moderate temps ... my car seems to overheat,
i.e., even in cool weather highway traffic the gauge reads very close to
RED.
The radiator has been flushed, no gunk coming out etc.
Don`t know if it`s the poor design of radiator, engine compartement
ventialtion or if I have problems in engine/water pump ...
I know these early 99`s have poor cooling abilities in general but maybe
somebody could give some ideas what to do.

Thank`s in advance!

Over time, the cooling fins between the tubes lose their ability to
transfer heat from corrosion and the efficiency of the radiator goes
down hill. The unit can look sound but can be compromised. That's where
I am at with my last radiator " in stock". Time for an upgrade.

Gints,
As Bill said, just having an unimpeded flow inside the radiator doesn't
ensure that it is cooling correctly. Corrosion loosens or completely breaks
the contact between the tubes and fins, compromising the ability of the
radiator to transfer heat into the air. A new or re-cored radiator may be
your solution.

On the other hand, if the pump isn't in fine condition (pitting, rusted
away and thereby mis-shapen impeller blades, worn housing) it may not be
flowing the coolant up to the specified needs.

A properly functioning thermostat is easy to check and cheap to replace.

A final possibility is always a head gasket failure, so that compression
gasses enter the coolant passages. This over-pressurizes the system, puts
bubbles into the coolant, and generally causes the cooling system to
non-function. A cooling system pressure test can (usually) tell you if this
is OK or not. If the pressure test is OK, then I wouldn't pursue this
further until all else has failed.

Gintz, usually to older 99s had radiators with what I call "fat tanks", the "tanks" on the sides. Normally the stock radiators had 2 row cores, this would be the thickness of the radiator. If your radiator has the "fat tanks" and only 2 row core you can take it into a radiator shop and have them replace the 2 row core with a 3 row core. Feel your tanks and see if on one side of the tank if the core is recessed and there is room for a thicker core. A 3 row core will give you more coolant capacity and better cooling.
