Was it Saab originally or did they come with other engines?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_Quantum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_Quantum It's also about 4 years older than any of the other Quantum IV's, so I guess that makes it extra special..

Actually, according to both the auction and the information that I have on
this car from previous conversations with the caretaker of it, it should
remain as currently built with the BMC engine and NOT changed to have a
SAAB engine installed. Reportedly, it was originally assembled this way and
always raced this way. So, it is period-correct with the BMC, even if not
as the Quantum Motorcar Corp. originally intended. It has not, to the
owners knowledge, ever had a SAAB engine installed.

One of the great crimes of vintage car collecting and restoration, in my
honest opinion, is when people purchase a car and "restore" it into
something that it never was OR to a more original condition (and thus
oftentimes more valuable) but a much less "significant" one.

Two great examples...
Recently, the car that won the SCCA national championship for the H-Mod
class in 1961 was discovered in astonishingly good and original condition.
It was a Lola Mk 1 fitted with an OSCA engine. The OSCA was in great
condition and still retained the original Weber dual sidedrafts with
consecutive serial numbers. A mechanical freshening would have made it
raceable. No restoration was needed.
It was purchased, stripped, completely redone, and a Coventry Climax engine
installed. It was now much faster, but completely devoid of any history it
ever earned. RUINED.

In the early 60's, John "Jake" Jacobson purchased a Lotus 11 LeMans from my
father. It was a complete basket case, having been crashed badly in a local
race. Jake cut the whole front end off of the car and fabricated a new
steel tube chassis and complete fiberglass body designed to take a SAAB
two-stroke and transaxle. The rear half of the Lotus 11 was retained with
its original DeDion rear suspension, modified so that it could be run
without driveshafts. It was known as the "2nd Special" and was very
successful in Jake's hands in the H-Modified class. He raced it for several
years at tracks all along the east coast. Today, that car has been
restored as an "original" Lotus 11 and races in England. It has no known
history as an 11, but a very rich one as an HMod. RUINED.

Also, I have contacted the seller and provided him with the correct year
for the car.

I took a the 63 wagon to a large local car show this weekend.  The entire day I met people who loved the old Saab.  One man told of his 58 93b that was buried in snow in 1966 storm and was only car in neighborhood that started and made it to work.  Suddenly as I was about to leave, a senior couple came over pointing at the car.  She said that she had not seen one in years.   When I asked when she said brand new as she bought a blue 95 from same dealer mine came from in Albany NY.  She told of stories striving with the kids in PJs laying in the back as they drove around.  Ii offered her to sit inside and she was so excited that she sat there for 15 mins reminiscing about 50 years ago in a little blue Saab.  They may have pictures to share with me.  My daughter loves Daddys Saabs.
